PRESQUE ISLE (AP) – Student scholarships at Northern Maine Community College are getting a $1 million boost thanks to a donation announced Friday by Floyd Harding, a Presque Isle attorney.

Harding said the gift is being presented in memory of his wife, B. Jean Harding.

College officials anticipate that more than 150 students at the college will receive financial assistance thanks to the Harding gift. The school called it the largest private contribution received to date by a Maine community college.

Harding, a World War II prisoner of war, has a long record of public service, including three terms in the state Senate.
