FARMINGTON – The husband-wife duo of Peter Dumont and Megan Roberts will show their watercolors at Heirlooms of Tomorrow during September. An opening reception with the artists will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1. The public is invited.
Both are natives of Maine and have lived their lives appreciating and enjoying nature. Dumont worked for the state until his recent retirement. He worked as a natural history educator, first serving as executive director of the Maine Conservation School in Bryant Pond, then teaching marine sciences for the Department of Marine Resources.
Later in his career, Dumont also collected landing statistics for Maine’s Saltwater Sport Fishery. This exposure to the natural world influenced his art and how he views the world. Coastal scenes, boats and fish are his favorite subjects. Dumont said he enjoys the challenges that watercolor painting present.
Roberts has worked in the ski industry throughout the United States for more than 30 years, and is working part-time as the curator of the newly opened Ski Museum of Maine in Farmington. She also spent four years as manager of the Titcomb Mountain ski area.
Her wide travels and outdoors time have given Roberts the chance to experience nature in all its beauty and fury. Her painting style and subjects are eclectic, and this is her first showing of her works.
Both paint because they find it relaxing and fun. They both enjoy Alpine skiing and race together competitively on the New England Master’s Race Circuit. They also enjoy sailing, hiking, tennis and reading. They currently reside on Voter Hill, where they look out over the mountains.
Their work will remain on display and available for purchase through September. Heirlooms of Tomorrow is located at 710 Wilton Road across from Franklin Memorial Hospital.
