FARMINGTON – The Rev. Ed Cowie, pastor of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church, Fort Beaufort, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, will preach on Sunday, Sept. 2, at Fairbanks Union Church and at the North New Portland Community Church. Worship services will be at 9 and 11 a.m.

Cowie is part of a pastor’s exchange, bringing four South African pastors to northern New England for six weeks. The exchange is sponsored by the Presbytery of New England, Presbyterian Church, USA.

The exchange will begin with a one-week conference, “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers.” The South African pastors will meet with a multicultural group of pastors from New England to discuss leadership in multicultural settings. The Rev. Eric Law, an Episcopal priest and author, will lead the gathering.

After the conference, the South African pastors will spend a month in host parishes. Cowie will visit the churches of Mission at the Eastward. Ed Jesteadt, coordinator of MATE’s South African partnership, is hosting Cowie’s visit.
