AUBURN – Scott Morency of Auburn was awarded a master’s of science in taxation degree with honors distinction at Bentley College McCallum Graduate School of Business in Waltham, Mass., on May 19.
Morency is the son of Paul Morency of Auburn and Diane Griffin of Sabattus. He received the highest honor bestowed upon a Bentley student when he was inducted into the Falcon Society, an honor given to those who are at the highest level of academic performance, character and contribution to the Bentley and Waltham community.
Morency also received the Federation of Schools Accountancy Academic Excellence award for excellence in graduate studies. Morency was an active leader in the Service-Learning Center as the Graduate in Residence, receiving the service-learning certificate and the Sandy M. Adamian Service-Learning Award.
Morency created a service-learning program called 2+2=5 that has involved more than 250 Bentley students and 2,500 Waltham area children over a four-year period. The 2+2=5 program provides a framework for Bentley students to teach children about the value of teamwork and the importance of interpersonal skills. The 2+2=5 program has grown national attention through conference presentations and publications.
Morency served as chairman of a national service-learning conference called “Students as Colleagues” held at Bentley in November. He has presented nationally at conferences on service-learning, students as colleagues, civic engagement and student leadership. Morency’s research thesis, “Career Development through Service-Learning” was published in “Future Directions” (ed. Gerard Stenerson, 2006).
Morency will begin his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers as a financial statement auditor and will obtain his CPA license. Morency will then pursue his PhD in accountancy and become a professor of accountancy and taxation.
