NORWAY – Helka Piirainen Peake, 91, of South Paris, died Aug. 28, at Stephens Memorial Hospital after suffering a heart attack a week earlier.

She was born in North Paris on Sept. 22, 1915, the daughter of Antti H. and Kaisa (Maatta) Piirainen.

She married Donald C. Peake on June 5, 1943. He died on Nov. 11, 1986.

She and Don enjoyed camping throughout California and Oregon.

She was an avid bowler for many years. She was generous and fun-loving and will be sadly missed.

She had worked for many years in various places such as Maine, New Jersey, New York, and California, before retiring with Don to Oregon. She moved back to Maine after the death of her husband.

She was a member of the Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine.

She is survived by a brother, Veikko W. Piirainen of West Paris; a sister, Laila Piirainen Doughty, and husband, Richard, of South Paris; sisters-in-law, Lois W. Piirainen of West Paris, Doris Olson, and her husband, Leo, of Sinclairville, N.Y.; and several special nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her father; mother; husband; sisters, Lempi Peura and Sylvia Ordway; and brothers, Carl and Toivo.
