LEWISTON – Katherine P. O’Hara, 87, of East Avenue, and a resident of d’Youville Pavilion died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Lewiston on Jan. 7, 1920, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Farham) O’Hara. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1938. She later graduated from Boston University in 1942, where she received her bachelors of science degree.
After her education, she went on to work as a school teacher in Hallowell, Fairfield, Sanford and Lewiston High School, where she retired in 1979.
She was a member of the Maine Teachers’ Association and the National Education Association. She was a lifetime member of St. Patrick’s Church.
She is survived by her brother, Kenneth O’Hara, and his wife, Peggy, of Fountain Hill, Ariz.; her six nieces, Joyce Nichols of Lewiston, Jean Collier of Auburn, Kathy McDermott and Doretta Gladysz, both of Connecticut, Mary Cunningham of Bath and Debra Stuart of Manchester; her two nephews, John O’Hara of New Jersey and George O’Hara of Connecticut.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Ethel and Gladys O”Hara and Dorothy Cunningham; and her bothers, James, John, Wallace, Justin, William and Robert O’Hara.
