FARMINGTON – A three-vehicle collision Wednesday slowed noontime traffic on Route 2 in West Farmington.
A black 2002 Chevy pickup, driven by Lawrence Yeaton, 77, of Farmington, traveling east toward Farmington at about 11:30 a.m. crossed the center line and struck a red 1997 Chevy truck driven by Raymond Pillsbury, 64, of Farmington. The impact caused the red truck to spin out of control and land on Merle Smith’s front lawn, which is diagonally across from the Franklin Journal.
Yeaton’s vehicle then hit a gold 2002 Mitsubishi car driven by Josepha Worden, 71, of Wilton, head-on, said investigating officer Mary Hastings of the Farmington Police Department.
While the accident is still under investigation, she said, Yeaton told her that he thought something may have been wrong with his tires because he felt something was pulling him towards the center line. The left front tire did come off the vehicle, she said, but markings in the road indicate that he didn’t lose the tire until the collision.
No one was seriously injured, Hastings said. Pillsbury was treated at the scene for a small laceration. Worden complained of difficulty breathing and slight chest pain from the deployed airbags, the officer said, adding that they contain chemicals that can make one feel like choking.
The Yeaton truck, with damage estimated at $4,000, and the Worden car, with damage estimated at $8,000, were towed, while the Pillsbury truck, with an estimated $3,000 damage, was able to be driven from the scene, she said.
