LEWISTON – HealthSteps, a health education and prevention program for adults at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, has announced its fall session.

HealthSteps has a wide range of classes with the core membership fee, including the following:

Dance aerobics: Learn to dance while working out. Try everything from country line dancing and Latin, to Motown and disco; Wednesdays, 7 to 7:45 a.m.

TNT (Tone-N-Tighten): The weighted workout focuses on strengthening the major muscle groups of the upper and lower body using resistance tubes, bands and weights. It’s also a way to increase metabolism; Mondays, 7 to 7:45 a.m. and Wednesdays, 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.

Step aerobics: The high-energy workout offers a safe and low-impact option for those who would like a more intense class; Mondays, 7:45 to 8:30 a.m.

Step and Tone Interval: The class alternates between low-impact step aerobics and total body strengthening exercises for an all-around workout; Fridays, 7:15 to 8:15 a.m.

Lap swim: Participants can swim at their own pace in the 25-meter, eight-lane pool, supervised by a certified lifeguard; Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:05 to 7:30 a.m.; Fridays, 6:05 to 7:15 a.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:05 to 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. to noon.

Aquatic fitness: It is a super toning, calorie-burning workout that will provide maximum results and benefits. While swimming skills are not needed, a comfort level in deep and shallow water is important; Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 6:30 to 7:15 a.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Open track: It is an additional track time for HealthSteps members, and an instructor will be in the area for safety; Tuesdays, Thursdays, 7 to 8:45 a.m.

Walk/jog: participants can walk the indoor track at their own pace, including a group warm-up, strengthening, cool-down and stretching; Monday through Friday, 6:05 to 6:55 a.m.

Time to stretch: stretching is an important component in any exercise program; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 to 7:15 a.m.; Fridays, 8:15 to 8:30 a.m.

Balance ball blast: increase flexibility, improve coordination and develop strength while using an exercise ball; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7:15 to 8:10 a.m.

Core and stretch: an abdominal and lower back workout followed by total body stretching to increase flexibility; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8:15 to 8:45 a.m.

All core classes are held in the Bates College Merrill Gym from Sept. 10 through Dec. 20. The cost of a core membership is $112, which includes unlimited participation in all the above classes. All instructors are certified.
