ANDOVER – The Fire Department has been awarded $42,370 from the federal Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Program.

U.S. Sen. Susan Collins made the announcement late Wednesday afternoon in a report.

The grants are designed to help critical first-responders with equipment and training needs to better serve their communities.

Andover Fire Chief Ken Dixon did not return calls Thursday for information about the grant.
