PARIS – Cynthia Wescott is directing a musical benefit show that will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School.

Along with some talented people, there will be some talented pets. The auditions for the pets are being held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8, at the high school.

Wescott has directed the Christmas for Teens benefit show for years and is undertaking the same type of event to benefit Responsible Pet Care of Norway.

Swingin’ Bears

PARIS – The Swingin’ Bears Square Dance Club will offer classes for new people and review for club members beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Oxford Hills Middle School in South Paris. The first lesson for beginners is free.

Karate demo

OXFORD – Bouchard Karate Academy’s demo team will perform at the Oxford County Fair at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, on the stage. In addition to traditional displays of karate techniques, the group has feature skits planned. Cemetery meeting

HARTFORD – The Hartford Maple Grove Cemetery Association will meet at the Union School on Church Street at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16. Anyone who has a cemetery lot or takes care of a family lot is encouraged to attend. The Hartford Historical and Improvement Society will meet immediately after the cemetery meeting. Anyone living or has ever lived in Hartford is encouraged to attend and bring a picnic lunch.

Balance workshop

BRIDGTON – A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 18 through Oct. 16, at the Bridgton Community Center, Depot Street.

Participants will learn to view falls and fear of falling as controllable and set realistic goals for increasing activity. They will also find ways to change the environment to reduce fall risk factors and learn simple exercises to increase strength and balance. Program cost is $10.
