WASHINGTON (AP) – Luciano Emilio scored two second-half goals and D.C. United beat the New England Revolution 4-2 on Sunday to take a four-point lead in the Eastern Conference.
New England (12-6-6) went ahead 2-1 in the 54th minute when Shalrie Joseph’s shot trickled through United goalkeeper Troy Perkins’ legs, and Jay Heaps pushed the ball across the goal line for his first goal of the season.
Then United (14-6-4) seized control. Jaime Moreno took a short pass from Emilio, had his first shot blocked by Heaps but put the rebound past Matt Reis.

D.C. struck again when Ben Olsen sent a pass across the box to Christian Gomez, and Emilio deflected Gomez’s shot into the goal in the 67th minute. Emilio added his second in the 83rd minute, heading in a pass from Brian Carroll.
Moreno, who was honored before the game for becoming Major League Soccer’s career goal leader last month, also assisted on Fred’s goal that put United up 1-0 in the 31st minute.
Taylor Twellman tied it 14 minutes later, scoring his fourth goal in New England’s last five games on a setup by Khano Smith.
