LEWISTON – The Lewiston Public Library will offer children the opportunity to practice their reading skills by reading aloud to Scott, a therapy dog, starting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The chance to interact one-to-one with a trained dog and the dog’s handler is fun and motivational – another great reason to visit the library.

When children read aloud to dogs, their skills and confidence increase. A dog is a loving and attentive audience and children are empowered to become the teachers, learning vocabulary and comprehension as they explain the story to a new canine friend.

Reading aloud to a dog is a memorable experience. Children retain what they learn because they think and talk about it often. Even the rules of phonetics are easier to remember when pointed out by a furry paw on the page.

To reserve a spot reading to Scott, call the Lewiston Public Library at 784-0135, ext. 4.
