BUCKFIELD – Northeast Bank employees want to collect more than 500 pounds of food for the Buckfield Community Church’s food pantry and to help boost contributions from others.
The bank has been helping with the food drive every year since 2005 and has collected on average of 450 pounds of food a year.
“We adopted this project because it was something we could do year-round. What better way to help our neighbors than to address a basic fundamental need. This is one project I’m proud to support indefinitely,” Vice President Jean Sylvester said in a statement.
The church uses the food supply to regularly help feed local families in need, and delivers bags of food when necessary.
“We are really thankful for the bank’s efforts,” said Deacon Eleanor Austin. “We see some local folks on a regular basis, and still many don’t ask until they are truly in need. It’s hard sometimes when I know people are in need and don’t ask.”
The church on Turner Street accepts donations of nonperishable items. Donations may also be dropped off at the Northeast Bank branch on Depot Street during work hours.
