School dance
LEWISTON – In a continuation of the celebration of 150 years of Catholicism in Lewiston/Auburn, there will be a high school dance in the Holy Cross Church Hall from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15.
Ernie Gagne will be the DJ and the cost is $3 a person. Snacks will also be available to purchase. All high school students from the parishes in Auburn and Lewiston are welcome. For more information, contact Patti Gagne at 783-4529 or 786-3242.
Lodge meeting
AUBURN – Ashlar Lodge 105, AF and AM, will meet Monday, Sept. 17, at the Auburn Masonic Temple, 1021 Turner St. All Masons are welcome to the business meeting that will start at 7:30 p.m. For a ride or more information, contact Steve Peterson at 777-1728.
Society speaker
POLAND – The Wednesday, Sept. 19, meeting of the Poland Historical Society will feature Louise Knapp speaking on the “History of the Interurban Railroad,” which ran between Lewiston and Portland.
The 7 p.m. meeting will be held at the Old Schoolhouse next to the Poland Town Office. The public is welcome. Refreshments will be served following the talk.
Optimists to meet
MECHANIC FALLS – The first meeting of the Tri-Town Optimist Club this school year will happen at noon Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the conference room at 24 Lewiston St. (the old School Union 29 building behind the old Elms Hotel). Lunch will be served.
The club will recognize the winners of a recent oratorical contest and Chelsea Pickett will speak about her experience at the national oratorical contest. Guests are welcome and should call 345-3100 in advance.
Organized in 2003, the Tri-Town Optimist Club is affiliated with Optimist International, one of the world’s largest and most active service organizations. The local club works on projects to benefit area youth and the community, including a bike rodeo, a tri-town dance and Student of the Month recognition. New members are welcome.
Schooner program
AUBURN – A free presentation detailing new orthopedic approaches and the upcoming launch of St. Mary’s Joint Replacement Center will be held at noon Friday, Sept. 21, in the Tenants Harbor Room at Schooner Estates, 200 Stetson Road. A team of professionals will discuss advances and share their view of the future. Lunch is included. Call 784-2900 to preregister by Tuesday, Sept. 18.
