BRIDGTON – Preregistration ends Friday, Sept. 14, for the annual Loon Echo Hike n’ Bike Trek to benefit Loon Echo Land Trust’s conservation efforts in the northern Sebago Lake region. The event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Shawnee Peak Ski Area.

The trek offers a six-mile hike along the trails on Pleasant Mountain, Loon Echo’s focus for conservation. For cyclists of all abilities, the trek offers three scenic routes: a 25-, 50-, or 100-mile trek, which travels through fields and forests of the Upper Saco River area and into the White Mountain National Forest.

A family rate is available to ensure all can ride for a reasonable cost. Tim Corcoran of Gorham Bike and Ski, said, “The 100-mile century ride is the toughest in Maine.”

The trek is a carbon-neutral event, thanks to 35 wind watts donated by Maine Interfaith Power and Light. Other “green” components are being incorporated, such as optional organic T-shirts. There will be prizes, a barbecue and music by Blue Willow Band and the Sensations.

To learn more about the event and to register, visit www.lelt.org or call 647-4352. Participants may sign up the morning of the event at a slightly higher rate. Check in before 8 a.m. for the century bike ride and before 10 a.m. for the other bike rides and hike.
