LEWISTON – A man and woman were hurt Wednesday afternoon when their motorcycle and a car collided on outer Lisbon Street, sending both riders sprawling to the roadway.
Police said 36-year-old Katie Liberty of Lewiston, the passenger on the bike, was in and out of consciousness when they arrived at Lisbon Street and Gould Road.
Liberty was taken to Central Maine Medical Center with an apparent head injury suffered in the 4:30 p.m. collision.
The driver of the motorcycle, 32-year-old Matthew Roy of Lewiston, suffered an injury to his hip in the wreck, police said. He was also taken to CMMC.
The conditions of the victims were not immediately available Wednesday night. Police said neither injury appeared life-threatening.
Roy was driving his Harley-Davidson west on Lisbon Road when a car driven by Dennis Martin, 56, of Lewiston, pulled from Gould Road, police said.
Martin, driving a Pontiac Bonneville, did not have a clear view of approaching traffic because of a box van turning from Lisbon Street onto Gould Road at the same time, police said.
According to a crash report, Roy’s Harley struck the front bumper of Martin’s car, causing the bike to crash to the side of the road.
The wreck occurred at the start of the commuter hour, causing long traffic snarls on both sides of outer Lisbon Street.
Police said they were assisted by several people who stopped at the scene to help the victims or lend aid in other ways. A man driving a beer delivery truck used his vehicle to keep approaching traffic from the victims until emergency crews arrived, police said.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday night.
