LEWISTON – Michael Vincent Rizzolo of Buttonwood Lane in Lewiston, died Wednesday, Sept. 12, with his loving family at his side.

He was born in Newark, N.J., on Dec. 14, 1920, a son of the late Leonard and Mary (Napoleillo) Rizzolo. He was educated in local New Jersey schools, and then continued on to Rutgers University. He moved to Lewiston in 1955 to assist Ray Geiger in the relocation of Geiger Bros. This was also where he met his future bride of 48 years, Shirley Ouellette. They would later marry in 1959.

He was employed with Geiger Bros. for 38 years as the senior vice president of manufacturing and retired from the firm in 1987. He was also past president of the United Way, chairman of the board at St. Mary’s, and also chairman of the Maine State Lottery Commission.

He was a wonderful, loving, and caring man and was loved by all who knew him. He was well-known for his incredible Italian cooking, as well as his love for the New York Yankees, although he had the utmost respect for the Red Sox. He spent time enjoying his reading and artwork, but most of all time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Shirley, of Lewiston; his son, Chris Rizzolo, and his companion, Lauri Castonguay, of Lewiston; his daughters, Carrie Haynes, and husband, Jerry, of Auburn and Sue Levasseur of Lewiston; sisters, Minnie Rizzolo and Marie McEntee, and husband, Edward, of New Jersey; brothers, Sylvio Rizzolo, and wife, Anne, and Leonard Rizzolo, and wife, Angie, also of New Jersey; six grandchildren, Lauren and Chelsey Rizzolo, Nicole Haynes, and fiance, Brett White, John Haynes, and Matthew and Kaylynn Levasseur; two great-grandchildren, Mallory and Ema Haynes-White; and many nieces and nephews.
