SOUTH PARIS-Senior QB Josh DiBattista was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for three touchdowns and rushed for two more as Mt Ararat soared past Oxford Hills, 43-6 , on Friday night.
DiBattista finished the game with 16 rushes for 146 yards and completed 4 passes for another 87 and three touchdowns.
Mt. Ararat broke into the scoring column on its first possession. DiBattista found TE Shawn Dostie on a one-yard jump pass over the middle to finish off a 6-play, 63-yard drive.
The Eagles (2-1) scored once again just before halftime. This time DiBattista found Dostie over the middle, Dostie made a finger tip catch and was off on a 14 yard pass and catch for a 14-0 halftime lead. “He’s (Dostie) the big guy”, said DiBattista “he plays basketball, he used to the tips.”
Oxford Hills had two chances in the third quarter to get back into the game.
After a long kickoff return, the Vikings had the ball on Mt. Ararat’s 21-yard line trailing 21-0. The Eagles defense was up to the test and held the Vikings on downs.
Oxford Hills got the ball right back as Sean Merz intercepted a DiBattista pass and returned it to the 11 yard line. Once again the Vikings were unable to take advantage and again turned the ball over on downs. “
We talked alot about finishing drives,” said Oxford Hills coach Bob Austin, “but we didn’t finish drives tonights.”
On Mt. Ararat’s next series of downs, DiBattista ran the option play to perfection, broke into the clear on the left flat and raced untouched for a 80-yard TD run.
After holding the Vikings on downs, the Eagles struck quickly as DiBattista rushed in from 13 yards out to give the Eagles a comfortable 35-0 lead late in the third quarter.
Oxford Hills QB Justin Frechette found split end Andrew Hart for a 25 yard touchdown pass play to get the Vikings on the scoreboard.
Mt. Ararat finished off the scoring as backup QB Drew Marshall threw a short touchdown pass to Kurt Yenco.
“We realized we didn’t finish some plays in the first half,” said Mt. Ararat coach Mark LaFountain, “and they com back and finished them in the third quarter.”
