Dear Sun Spots: You are able to get so much information I am requesting your expertise. I am looking for the song “Old Turkey Buzzard.” I have heard it on Dave Letterman. He throws cards out via the area in back of him and sometimes the song is played, All I heard was “Old Turkey Buzzard, flying high.” I don’t know who sings it or where I could purchase it. My heart would soar like an eagle if you could get this information for me. Thank you. I can be reached via e-mail at [email protected]. – Barbara Williamson, Lewiston.

Old Turkey Buzzard

Old Turkey Buzzard

Flying, flying high

He’s just awaiting

Buzzard’s just awaiting

Waiting for something down below to die

Old buzzard knows that he can wait

‘Cause every mother’s son has got a date – a date with fate

with fate

He sees men come he sees men go

crawling like ants on the rocks below

The men who scheme, the men who dream and

die for gold on the rocks below

Gold, gold, gold — they just got to have that

Gold, gold, gold — they’ll do anything for gold

Old Turkey Buzzard

Old Turkey Buzzard

Flying, flying high

He’s just awaiting

Buzzard’s just awaiting

Waiting for something down below to die

Old buzzard knows that he can wait

‘Cause every mother’s son has got a date – a date with fate

with fate

He sees men come he sees men go

crawling like ants on the rocks below

a wiff of gold and off they go to die like rats on the rocks below

Gold, gold, gold – they’ll do anything for gold

Gold, gold, gold – they’ll have Mackenna’s Gold

In addition, the site notes you will find a movie “soundclip” of this song at www.coolgoose.com or www.cooltoad.com.

Dear Sun Spots readers: There are many students who experience homelessness who continue to attend school. Many of these students are in need of new or nearly new backpacks without wheels. If anyone has a new or nearly new backpack that is appropriate for high-school-age students they would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated. Backpacks could be dropped off at the main office at Lewiston High School, or you may contact Mary Seaman or Cynthia Taylor at 795-4190 ext. 2214 or 2215. Contact can also be made by e-mailing [email protected] or [email protected]. Thank you for any new or nearly new backpacks you are able to provide. – Cynthia Taylor, No Town.

Dear Sun Spots: How can one get a signed photo of the team at Labadie’s Bakery? Thanks. – No Name, Auburn.

Answer: Sun Spots checked with the bakery and to do so you should contact the Elliot Avenue Little League, or the bakery does have an unsigned photograph they’d be willing to provide you. You’ll have to check into getting it signed, however, and it appears the team has disbanded now that the summer is over. The contact person for Elliot Little League is Steve Roy at 212-3648.

Now we are seeking two or three volunteers to help assemble information kits and packets for upcoming events. These volunteer projects will take place in our office during business hours. It’s fun when two or three people work together.
