The board of directors of Norway Downtown, one of nine revitalization efforts in the state designated as a Maine Street Maine Community by the Maine Development Foundation, supports the Western Foothills Land Trust’s proposal to purchase the historic Roberts’ Farm Property on Pike Hill in Norway.

The acquisition of this land will be a positive step in preserving the integrity and rural character of Norway’s downtown. The Roberts’ Farm Preserve is within walking distance of the town’s center and abuts a picnic rest area overlooking the magnificent Lake Pennessewassee.

With this vision and care, the western approach to downtown Norway, which was once farmland, will continue to be a scenic route. This will benefit the entire community.

In addition, its purchase will ensure ecological responsibility, increased recreational trails, create educational opportunities, and secure natural and beautiful land for our citizens and visitors for generations to come.

The Western Foothills Land Trust is to be commended by taking initiative to prevent sprawl in our downtown community. This purchase will, as well, complement our other four seasons’ recreational opportunities within walking distance of Main Street – Ordway Grove, Witt Swamp, and Lake Pennessewassee Park.
