JAY – A Jay man posted $250 cash bail to be released from jail Monday after he was accused of furnishing marijuana to two Jay girls and furnishing a place for them to drink liquor Sunday night.

Police Sgt. Troy Young arrested Ryan Bergman, 28, of 12 Emery St., on charges of felony aggravated furnishing of scheduled drugs and misdemeanor furnishing a place for minors to consume alcohol, police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

The drug furnishing charge was elevated to aggravated because of the girls’ ages of under 15, White said. The location was also within 1,000 feet of a school, he said.

The two girls were reported missing to police late Sunday afternoon.

Young investigated and found the girls at about 9 p.m. at a location a short distance from Bergman’s home, White said.

The girls admitted to police to drinking liquor at the Bergman home, White said, and one of the juveniles admitted using an illegal drug at the home, which she said Bergman supplied.

An adult witness verified the girls’ statements.

Bergman is scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Nov. 16.

His bail conditions include no possession or consumption of alcohol or illegal drugs; no contact with anyone under 18; no contact with the victims; and he is subject to random search of his person, vehicles and home.

“This is a serious crime that puts young children at risk and the Jay Police Department will vigorously investigate and charge anyone who preys upon children,” White said.
