I will not downplay schoolbuses going over the speed limit.
The real danger to children, however, are cars running school lights. This happens daily, across the city.
One woman ran my lights two mornings in a row; she was so busy talking on her cellular phone she did not see the big yellow school bus with flashing red lights. She was also traveling quickly.
Please, we bus drivers are doing our best, we have no help, just complaints.
Haven’t children been taken to school and home safely? Last winter, when we had snowstorms and everything was closing down, we got the kids home, and the media wasn’t there to comment on it.
I bet if one of us had simply slid off the road, it would have been front page news.
We deal with children that will not sit down, and parents who holler at us for hollering at their child. We drive a 77-passenger bus. Has anyone tried talking in a normal tone over kids screaming from the back of it?
Parents are unaware what their child will do, when they are not there.
