WAYNE – A little chicken and lots of patience nets a brief spot on Paul McCartney’s new musical video, Nod Your Head, for two Wayne Weimaraners.

Just as the song title indicates, the video has shots of mostly models nodding their heads and one brief shot featuring the dogs, owned by George and Anna Lyon of Wayne, also nodding their heads.

“It’s a lark and quite fun,” said Anna Lyon, assistant vice president and marketing director at Franklin Savings Bank in Farmington. “It’s a stupid song and not his best work …but it’s Paul McCartney!”

Set against the dark green foliage viewed from her deck, where she videoed the dogs, Griffin and Tara, their shot creates a stark contrast to the sterile, studio shots, she said.

The Lyons have not been officially notified that her video submission was accepted and used, she said, and only found out when another unknown entrant e-mailed her at the end of August to say that she thought her dogs were on the video. The video was added to the youtube site three weeks ago.

“It would be nice to get an autograph or an e-mail from him,” she said.

A couple of years ago, the Lyons saw McCartney in concert in Boston. After being told it was easier to get good seats if you were on his e-mail list, she said, she signed on. She didn’t get the good seats but did receive an e-mail in June saying that he was making a group video for this new song, and everyone was invited to do something with it.

Nearly 80 videos were uploaded to youtube. Some were a little over the edge and now some fans are grumbling, she said, after submitting videos and believing nothing was used except the shot of her dogs.

The dogs, brother and sister, are a year and a half old and have already made their public debut dressed as Dalmatians on Franklin Savings’ July 4th parade float this year, she said.

Her husband trains the dogs for hunting. They don’t do tricks but are pretty obedient, she said.

Using that obedience, she plunked the dogs down on the deck one sunny afternoon in June and waved pieces of chicken in front of their faces to get the dogs to nod their heads up and down, she said. She then uploaded the shots to youtube and forgot about it.

The unknown e-mailer picked a day that found her coping with the “empty nest thing,” she said, as she had just taken her youngest daughter to college. The video quickly raised her spirits, but she has to admit, she’s tiring of hearing that it’s a stupid song.

After losing another Weimaraner at the age of 14, the Lyons planned to adopt Griffin then thought it would be nice for him to have a companion so they took his sister. They’re a handful, she said. It’s like having up to 10 dogs in the house for the amount of work. Griffin would make a good homebody, she said, but Tara likes an adventure.
