FARMINGTON – Jonathan Labozzo notched the first two goals as the Bates College men’s soccer team rolled to a 5-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday.
Duane Pelz, Patrick King, and Tyler Dewdney rounded out the scoring with a goal a piece for the Bobcats (1-2).
UMF (1-1-2) keeper duties were split between Brian Lemont, Matt Dennett, and Rodney Payne, combining for four saves. Aaron Schleicher and Robert Wesley-Munro split time in goal for the Bobcats, with Schleicher making two saves.
Husson 1, UMPI 0
BANGOR – Josh Bartlett scored the game-winning goal off a headed ball by Justin Guavin 3:16 into overtime to give Husson a 1-0 victory over the University of Maine at Presque Isle.
Bradley Ala made three saves for the Husson (1-5-1) shutout, while Scott Clenchy stopped nine shots for UMPI (2-4-1).
Thomas 4, Unity 1
WATERVILLE – Jim Grant paved the way with two goals as Thomas beat Unity 4-1 in men’s soccer Wednesday. Cory Underwood and Russell Beckwith both chipped in with goals for the Thomas win as well.
The lone Unity goal was scored by Nick Howe.
Women’s soccer
USM, UMF 0
GORHAM – Natasha Levandowski and Whitney Huse both tallied goals Wednesday as the University of Southern Maine rolled past the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in women’s soccer action.
Alison Bradley and Meghan Ibar split goaltending duties for the Huskies (3-3-0), yet neither was credited with a save.
UNE 5, Regis 1
BIDDEFORD – Kristen Meza scored two goals and added an assist as the University of New England defeated Regis College, 5-1.
Jill Gustafson, Michelle Epstein, and Sam Reid all scored for UNE.
The lone Regis goal was tallied after Samantha LaFrance converted a corner kick from Mandy Roan.
Field hockey
Bowdoin 5, Bates 0
LEWISTON -Hillary Hoffman had two goals and an assist as Bowdoin blanked Bates 5-0 in field hockey Wednesday.
Also scoring for the Polar Bears was Shavonne Lord, Lindsay McNamara, and Ingrid Oelschlager.
Emileigh Mercer needed only one save to earn the shutout for Bowdoin (5-0). Bates’ (3-1-1) Katie McEnroe made 11 saves.
