BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Community Center recently received a $3,000 grant from the Maine Expansion Arts Fund of the Maine Community Foundation to support an “Architecture is Art” digital photography project.

The grant will allow the center to explore the beauty and historical significance of unique architectural features of local buildings that are often overlooked as people go about their daily routines.

The program will begin with Bob Dunning, an expert in local historic buildings, who will offer a lecture highlighting design elements and their significance in the community.

Participants will be instructed in digital photography by Phil Morris, and professional photographer Lynn Harrison will address composition and other elements that go into good photography.

Field trips will provide participants the opportunity to photograph architectural features to bring back to the class for critical analysis, photo development and presentation utilizing software technology.

The finished works will be the subject of programs through the 2007-2008 year. A final “Architecture Is Art” exhibit will stimulate public awareness of the craftsmanship displayed in many of Bridgton’s older buildings and an appreciation of the importance of preserving as well as considerations regarding future building design and development.

A statewide organization with offices in Ellsworth and Portland, the Maine Community Foundation works in partnership with donors and community groups to strengthen Maine. For more information, visit www.mainecf.org or call toll-free 1-877-700-6800.
