FARMINGTON – More than $185,000 has been raised over the past two years to help Healthy Community Coalition replace its aging mobile health unit. Funds were raised through special events, fundraisers, corporate sponsorships, grants and donations, which were coordinated by the Franklin Community Health Network Foundation.
“We are absolutely thrilled by our community’s generosity,” said Franklin Community Health Network Vice President and coalition Executive Director Leah Binder.
“The coalition’s mobile health unit, with its range of health education and services offered at no cost to anyone who needs help, has filled a very important gap in our communities’ healthcare needs for over 12 years. We are looking forward to having our new unit on the road in 2008,” she said.
Steve Pierce, chairman of the campaign and member of the foundation advisory board, attributed the campaign’s success to the support of individuals and corporate sponsors, as well as the local children, who donated artwork for a Grand Safari Art Auction last August, which netted $24,000 for the cause.
“We are fortunate to have the support of community sponsors, groups and contributors in this effort,” said Pierce. “This month was a special milestone for us and it brought us to the $185,000 mark. We now have enough to purchase the new unit.”
The coalition and its mobile health unit promote health and well being through disease prevention, health education and community building. For more information, contact Maureen Goudreau at 779-2471.
