LEWISTON – The Stanton Bird Club has announced a series of fall/winter guided bird walks. Walks will be conducted at a variety of diverse local habitats.

All walks are free and open to everyone, beginning naturalist to advanced birder. Anyone interested in walking, seeing new places, fresh air, and nature is welcome.

Walks will be led by Stan and Joan DeOrsey, who will identify and provide background commentary on birds seen and heard.

Susan Hayward, Thorncrag naturalist, will share her knowledge, especially on plants. The walks will be held every other Wednesday morning from Sept. 26 to Dec. 19. All walks will be nearby in Lewiston, Auburn, or Lisbon.

For a complete schedule of dates and locations, contact Susan Hayward at 782-5238.

The first trip on Wednesday, Sept. 26, will be along the Whitman Spring Road Trail in Auburn. The focus will be finding and identifying the fall migrating birds. The trail goes through woods areas, clearings and along Lake Auburn, so there will be a diversity of birds and fall wildflowers.

For the trip those interested should meet at the J.C. Penney parking lot, 550 Center St., Auburn Mall, at 8 a.m. Trip leaders will return by 11 a.m.

If it is raining at 7 a.m. that day and predicted to continue through 10 a.m., the trip will be canceled. Bring binoculars and dress for the weather.

For more information or questions, call leaders Stan or Joan DeOrsey at 933-2266.
