Installation set
AUBURN – A joint installation of officers will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Danville Junction Grange. Maine State Grange Master Steven Verrill and his installing team will install the officers of Androscoggin Grange of Greene and Danville Junction Grange. A 6 p.m. supper will precede the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.
Club to install
SABATTUS – The Jacques Cartier Club will hold installation of the elected executive members and directors at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the club. A light lunch will be served, and dancing will follow until 11 p.m. All current members and guest are invited.
Church program
AUBURN – Pastor Shawn Boonstra of It Is Written Television will present a program at 7 p.m. Friday through Monday, Sept. 28 through Oct. 1, at the Seventh-Day Adventist Community Service Center, 310 Minot Ave. Those who need transportation should call 784-0861.
Canine clinic
SABATTUS – Dr. John MacGregor, cardiologist from Nashua, N.H., will hold a canine heart clinic on Sunday, Sept. 30. Sponsored by the Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club, the clinic will be held at 10 a.m. at the Sabattus Town Hall, Route 9.

Provide shirts
LISBON – Geiger Brothers and the American Legion have formed a partnership to provide shirts for soldiers wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Each year Geiger Brothers has products that were rejected by the buyer. Because of the design or logo on the shirt, they are not suitable for resale. This year Geiger donated 620 shirts to Coombs-Mountfort Post 158, American Legion, to deliver to the battlefield wounded.
The American Legion separated the shirts and mailed them to Landsthul, Germany, to brighten the lives of soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Adult Ed tour
LEWISTON – Lewiston Adult Education is sponsoring an all-day New England Curiosities Tour on Friday, Oct. 5. Participants will visit Portsmouth area graveyards to hear tales of witchcraft, lost souls and mysterious happenings.
Roxie Zwicker, New Hampshire seacoast historian, will lead a guided tour beginning at the Point of Graves Cemetery in Portsmouth. She will share information on symbols, superstitions, customs and traditions from Colonial times through the present.

Book sale
AUBURN – Friends of the Auburn Public Library are preparing for the annual used book sale extravaganza, which will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.
Members are seeking donations of hard covers and paperback books for all ages and interests. Donations can be dropped off at the Auburn Public Library, 49 Spring St. Those who have a large quantity of books to donate should call the library ahead of time at 333-6640 to make arrangements.
Needs storage
NEW GLOUCESTER – The New Gloucester Historical Society is in need of storage space for four of their largest museum collection items: the town hearse, a pung, a mail wagon and a sled, representing almost the full span of the town’s long history.
The society is looking for a person or company that will donate space in a barn, garage or other suitable area. For more information, contact the society’s president, Nancy Wilcox, at 926-4213.
Needs produce
POLAND – Tri-City Food Bank, located at Poland Community Church, asks Maine’s farmers for fresh produce to support families who do not have healthy foods to eat. The bank needs surplus of this year’s yields.
The food bank helps Minot, Mechanic Falls and Poland.
Deliveries can be made on Saturdays at the facility at 1212 Maine St. or call Linda Laskey at 998-4227 for pick-up.
Bridge play
LEWISTON – The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 18 at the Multi-Purpose Center. North/South winners in Flight A were: first, Leslie Buzzell and Nancy Lindgren; second, Martine Begert and Rosemarie Goodwin; third, Marta Clements and Claire Lyons. Flight B winners were Richard Balian and Peter Cummings.
East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Luke Merry and Mike Quinn; second, Jim Flanagan and Lucille Theriault; third, David Lock and Patricia Garcia. The quarterly club championship game will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the center.
The club also met on Sept. 19 at Schooner Estates in Auburn. An ACBL instant matchpoint game was held.
Overall North/South winners in Flight A were: first, John Hackett and Sharon Hinckley; second, Alan Walters and Dorothy Kelleher; third, Shirley West and Kate Hewitt; fourth, Patricia Garcia and Martine Begert.
Flight B winners were: first, David Wallace and Tom Dahlberg; second, Patricia Damon and Linda Leotsakos. Flight C winners were David Wallace and Tom Dahlberg.
Overall East/West winners in Flight A were: first, Alan McRae and Laura Lipman; second, Bob Angland and Diane Morton; third, Fred Letourneau and Rosemarie Goodwin; fourth, Marta Clements and Helen Little.
Flight B winners were: first, Marta Clements and Helen Little; second, Leon and Martha Bisson; third, Rupert White and Richard Amsden. Flight C winners were: first, Leon and Martha Bisson; second, Girwar and Chanda Agrawal.
