The Casella Waste System deal seems to be on the back burner for now, but beware the trickery of the politicians for the future. The taxpayers of Lewiston were betrayed when the rainwater runoff fees went into effect, and people will be betrayed again if any deal with Casella takes place in the future. There are millions of dollars involved, not just 30 pieces of silver.

Any deal with Casella is treacherous to me, and it would stink just like the tons of trash that would be brought in from places beyond the city of Lewiston.

Lewiston is now known as the city with a rain tax. Would residents want it to be known as the city of trash? Of course not. I believe most residents don’t want the city to become the dumping place of trash from other cities and towns. Taxpayers have proven they can overcome the prospect of thousands of trucks of trash coming into the city, day and night, creating a mountain of trash, but we must beware of future deals.
