FARMINGTON – An Industry man is being held in jail on $5,000 cash bail after being arrested Tuesday on sex-related and other charges.
The arrest came after Franklin County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint that the man forced his way into a home and tried to sexually assault a teenage girl.
Steven Wing, 30, was charged with attempted gross sexual assault, burglary and aggravated criminal mischief, sheriff’s Detective David St. Laurent said.
A family had left their teenage daughter home alone Sunday afternoon while they were away. They said Wing, a family acquaintance, forced his way into their home and attempted to have sex with the girl, St. Laurent said.
Based on an interview with the alleged victim, St. Laurent said, she was sleeping and awoke to find Wing on top of her, kissing her.
Her parents arrived home and found Wing in the bedroom with their daughter, St. Laurent said. An altercation occurred between Wing and the girl’s father, following which Wing left the residence.
The family was initially intimidated by Wing, who requested they not call police, St. Laurent said, and didn’t report the crime until Monday.
Sgt. Steve Lowell and St. Laurent interviewed Wing in the Farmington area and arrested him Tuesday.
If he doesn’t make bail Tuesday night or this morning, St. Laurent said he expected Wing to make an initial appearance in court today.
His bail conditions include no contact with the alleged victim and no contact with any female under age 17, St. Laurent said.
