LEWISTON – A local man out on bail on a charge of assaulting a woman was returned to jail Monday on charges of breaking into her home, threatening her with a knife and sexually assaulting her.
Jason Jean, 31, of 127 Oak St., was charged Monday with gross sexual assault, aggravated criminal trespass and violating conditions of release.
Police arrested Jean after forcing their way into the Hogan Road home where the alleged assault occurred. The woman had fled the home, but Jean refused to come outside or answer the door when officers knocked, police said.
Jean was taken for medical treatment for self-inflicted injuries before he was moved to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Police said Jean has attacked the same woman before. On Monday morning, when the alleged sex assault was committed, Jean was free on bail on previous charges, including two assaults.
Sometime in the early morning, Jean went to the home and forced his way inside. There, he held a knife to her throat and sexually assaulted her, police said.
The woman was later able to leave the home and called police. When officers arrived, the door was locked and Jean wouldn’t answer their calls to come outside.
He was arrested without incident by police, who burst into the apartment.
It was believed Jean had cut himself with the steak knife he had used to allegedly threaten the woman.
Jean was being held without bail Tuesday because he allegedly violated conditions of his earlier release.
