Some readers questioned our recent mention of the Guinness ham-slicing record of 1,660 slices/15,586 pounds, since that works out to an unlikely 9-plus pounds per slice. The figures were verified at Guinness’ website, but with the help of Guinness’ U.S. promotion agency, we found the problem. “15,586” is how “15.586” is written in the U.K. So the average slice actually weighed about two-tenths of an ounce.
