Corps meeting
AUBURN – The Central Maine Detachment, Marine Corps League, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the New Auburn Post 153, American Legion, 71 South Main St.
Commandant Raymond Lemieux will discuss the programs the detachment members have participated in, including activities at Veterans Memorial Park in Lewiston, a membership drive at the Auburn Mall, Togus trip to visit a member and paying respects to Marines who died recently.
The detachment sponsored a military funeral honors program and this week is assisting with parking and placing a wreath at the Vietnam Wall at Veterans Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29.
Soon members will place “Toys for Tots” containers in the stores. The toys are given to children whose parents are serving the country.
Blood drive
GREENE – Androscoggin Grange 8 is co-sponsoring a blood drive with the Greene Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the fire department, Patten Road.
The blood drive is being dedicated to Randall Hanson, a young man from Greene who bellieves the blood donations he received when he became ill saved his life. The grange was originally going to sponsor a benefit supper, but Hanson requested the blood drive to benefit others. The goal is 50 pints. Walk-ins are welcome or call Brenda Theriault at 946-5750 for an appointment.
Officers installed
AUBURN – Liberty Rebekah Lodge 94 will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the grand lodge office meeting room, 80 Caron Lane. Snacks will be provided by Esther Tucker. A social time will be held prior to the meeting at 7, when annual reports will be presented by the vice grand, secretary, financial secretary, treasurer, trustees and Auditing Committee.
The new officers will be installed in a ceremony that is open to the public at the Odd Fellows Hall in Lisbon at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3. Outgoing Noble Grand Doreen Locke will receive the rank and privileges of a past noble grand.
To be installed are Diane Treacy, noble grand; Ricky Waisanen, vice grand; Catherine Hunnewell, secretary; Cynthia Maxwell, financial secretary; and Arlene Simons, treasurer. Trustees elected are Lucille Nelson, first; Margaret Sjostrom, second; and Donald Nason, third.
OES to meet
AUBURN – A special meeting of Pine Cone Chapter 26, Order of the Eastern Star, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at the Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St. Officers will confer the degrees of the order.
All Eastern Star members are invited to welcome the new members. Refreshments will be served in the dining hall after the meeting.
Seniors meal
SABATTUS – The Sabattus Seniors monthly meal will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 4, at Little Dan’s Barbecue, Main Street, Lewiston. Cost of $7 includes a sandwich, French fries, coleslaw and dessert.
The meeting will follow the meal at 1 p.m. at Maxwell Gill Hall followed by bingo. There will be an opportunity to sign up for the Thanksgiving meal.
Health fair
LISBON FALLS – The Lisbon Falls Family Health Center at Food City Plaza will hold a free interactive health and safety fair from 2 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2.
Children and their parents will learn about the latest health and safety strategies. Attendees can try Dance Dance Revolution and the Fatal Vision Simulator, learn the latest in backpack safety and get a child’s car seat checked, and try healthy-tasting snacks for after-school or family movie night.

Aging safely
LEWISTON – A free informational session on “Aging in Place: Making Your Home Safe and Comfortable,” sponsored by St. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion, will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, in the resident dining room.
Diane Robarge, OTR/L, senior occupational therapist at the Center for Physical Rehabilitation at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, will discuss options and techniques to safely modify various rooms in the home so people can reside safely and independently as they grow older. Adaptive equipment will be available for demonstrations.

Supper tickets
GRAY – Tickets are still available for the Gray Fire-Rescue spaghetti supper at Gray’s Public Safety Building, 125 Shaker Road, on Saturday, Oct. 13, following the fire-rescue open house.
The supper will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. and tickets are available from fire-rescue members. A donation of $6 is asked for adults, with children under 12, $4, and children under 3, free. The maximum donation for a family of five or more is $20. Tickets are also available from the dispatcher at the Public Safety Building.
Proceeds will go toward the training and equipment funds for the fire-rescue department.

Adoption meeting
LEWISTON – The Lewiston office of the Department of Health and Human Services will host a public informational meeting about adoption and foster care from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, for all those interested. For location and to participate, contact A Family For ME at 1-877-505-0545.
