RUMFORD – A day filled with physical activities, healthy food and learning ways to lead a healthier life takes place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday at Black Mountain during the fourth annual Family Fun Festival.
Sponsored by Black Mountain, Rumford Hospital and the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, the day-long event features 5K and 1K race/walks, a 25-, 50- or 100-mile bicycle ride, a guided hike for children and adults, and a bike rodeo for young children.
Some events are free, such as the bike rodeo and hike, while others, such as the adult and children’s race/walk, and bike rides charge a modest fee.
Registration for the events takes place at the Black Mountain lodge from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
Breakfast, lunch and supper will be featured, starting with a pancake breakfast at 7 a.m. put on by the local Rotary, then a chowder cook-off from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. featuring favorite recipes from area restaurants.
A healthy pasta supper presented by Black Mountain will be served from 4-6 p.m.
Other activities include free fly casting demonstrations and Nordic walking demonstrations beginning at 11:30 a.m. and continuing throughout much of the afternoon, a jam session led by Ron Tremblay starting at 3:30 p.m., and an interactive health fair from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
A variety of health-related booths will be on site featuring balancing tests, CPR demonstrations, reflexology, massage, and other events.
