• Arrangements have been completed for a game of baseball between the Cigar Makers and the Loomfixers next Saturday at the South End Grounds. The game will be called at 2:30 p.m. The Cigar Makers number among their players some of the fastest men in the state; and as they are all in good shape, they will make their opponents travel fast to win. The Loomfixers have just won a series from the Mule Spinners and are confident of winning over any team in the city.

• The coming months will be a harvest for the doctors and patent medicine manufacturers unless great care is taken to keep the feet dry, also dress warmly. This is the advice of a well-known authority and should be heeded by all who are subject to rheumatism, kidney and bladder troubles and especially catarrh.

50 years ago, 1957

• Sebago Lake was completely drained of water for power generation at the end of September, although there was no threat to the public water supply from the big lake, the U.S. Geological Survey engineer for Maine said today.

• The government today took a first step toward complete control of all the air space over the United States in which the airplanes of tomorrow will fly. The Civil Aeronautics Board, in an unprecedented action, provided for the establishment of a new “continental control area” above 24,000 feet, effective Nov. 1.

• Foliage in northern Maine has been “unbelievably beautiful” the past 10 days, and it is expected that scenery will be at its peak in central and southern Maine this weekend.

FRYEBURG – The morning dawned clear as a bell here in the foothills of the White Mountains, where the autumn leaves are at their peak, and by 9 a.m. dozens of early-risers had entered the gates to be among the very first to visit the 132nd annual meeting of northern New England’s favorite agricultural fair. The eight-day event runs through next Sunday. All exposition buildings are open, the Billy Burr Fun-o-Rama is in full swing and all exhibitors are on hand to show their new wares at the Fryeburg Fair.
