BETHEL – “Snow Making Technology or What to do When ‘Mother Nature’ is Uncooperative” will be presented by Marvin Collins from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Gehring House, 77 Broad St.

Collins is vice president of mountain operations at Sunday River Ski Way,

Newry, and will discuss the art and science of snowmaking and grooming at “The River.”

Collins, a humorist, is a pioneer and expert on snowmaking and grooming.

The program is the first of the fall series of presentations to feature Maine’s unique personalities and programs.

Refreshments of hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be offered during the evening. The program is free and open to the public.

However, voluntary contributions will be accepted.

Western Mountains Senior College and the Bethel Historical Society are sponsors of the program.

Future programs, all to be held on the first Thursday of the month, include:

Nov. 1, Jim Mann, “Gems of the Maine Mountains”; Dec. 6, Larry Warren, “Hut-to-Hut from Bethel to Moosehead Lake”; and Jan. 3, Sarah Wight, “Women for Women.”
