PARIS (AP) – Accused quadruple murderer Christian Nielsen has gained 2 pounds and his treatment team has recommended against inserting a feeding tube before his trial next week, one of his lawyers said Wednesday.

Nielsen’s father was granted temporary guardianship last week as the 6-foot-tall defendant’s weight dropped to 106 pounds after he stopped eating. But Nielsen is now eating small amounts of food, said defense lawyer Margot Joly.

In light of the medical problems, Justice Robert Crowley will revisit Nielsen’s competency at a hearing next Tuesday, the day before jury selection is to begin in Oxford County Superior Court.

Nielsen is charged with killing and dismembering three women at the Black Bear Bed & Breakfast in Newry. He’s also accused of killing a fourth victim, an Arkansas man who was burned and dismembered miles away near Upton.
