LEWISTON – Music Together of Lewiston/Auburn, a parent/child music and movement program, is accepting fall registrations. Classes will be offered mornings during the week at the YWCA of Central Maine on East Avenue.

The goal of Music Together is to develop every child’s opportunity for basic music competence by encouraging music experience rather than learning information about music.

Families are encouraged to attend class together so younger children and older children in the same family can learn music and movement activities to do at home. Classes are geared toward children ranging in age from birth to age 5.

In a Music Together class, 12 children and their parents or caregivers meet for 45 minutes each week for 10 weeks to experience new songs, chants, movement activities and instrumental jam sessions.

Each semester is based on a collection of 30 songs through which the elements of music, such as melody, harmony, and rhythm, are explored. Each family receives the collection of songs on two professional recordings and an illustrated songbook as part of the registration fee.

Both adults and children sit together in a circle and participate during classes, which are led by a teacher with early childhood and music skills. Children have the opportunity to play instruments and improvise and dance to many different styles of music.

For more information or to register, contact director/teacher Cherie Szustak at 777-5548.
