WALES – A Monmouth man was listed in serious condition Thursday night after his car slammed into an oncoming SUV on Route 126.

Scotty Lyons, 31, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. He was in serious condition, according to Lt. Glenn Holt of the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department.

Holt said Lyons was driving a Kia Spectra east on Route 126 about 3 p.m. when his car drifted across the centerline and struck the front of a Ford Explorer traveling in the opposite direction.

The Explorer, Holt said, was driven by 17-year-old Chad Morin of Wales, who was examined for injuries at CMMC.

Lyons had to be extricated from his Kia before he was taken to the hospital. Police, fire and rescue crews from Sabattus, Wales and Monmouth responded to the scene.

Police blocked off a section of Route 126, rerouting traffic to School Road for approximately two hours while rescue efforts were under way and an investigation began.

The Sheriff’s Department ordered both vehicles impounded.
