Dear Sun Spots: Reading Karl Windischhofer’s question about the beloved short poem, “Trees” by Joyce Kilmer and your excellent reply in the Sept. 22 column, reawakened in me the love that I have had for the treasures of English and American literature, particularly poetry, for a long time now.

I have a half dozen volumes of the most familiar, best loved and most remembered poems, essays, letters, addresses, quotations and more that have ever been written down through the centuries.

Readers might be interested to know that Joyce Kilmer also wrote other short gems, the best loved and best known like “Citizen of the World,” “Prayer of A Soldier in France” and “Rouge Bouquet,” written just four months before he was found dead on the battlefield in France. – Ambrose Flynn, Oxford.
