Jackie Joncas, 11, right, recently won a $1,500 scholarship for taking first place in an oratorical contest sponsored by the New England District of Optimist International, and Shelby Brown, 11, left, won a $500 scholarship for third place. Both girls, as well as Kate Bridgham, 14, who won a $1,000 scholarship for second place, represent the Tri-Town Optimist Club of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Poland. New members are welcome.
