The governor and Legislature want to save money by cutting the number of school districts. I think this is a good idea for saving some money, as long as the money saved is not used for needless projects. I do not think merging jails is a good idea, but if done and money is saved, I hope the government will not spend the savings needlessly.
However, I believe state government should lead by example. How? By cutting the size of the Legislature, just as has been proposed to do with the school districts. I guess to elected officials, this would be like a surgeon operating on his own brain.
There are too many elected officials in Augusta for the number of citizens in this state.
Also, in response to an article in the Sun Journal Oct. 1, why is it that when a company fouls up and pollutes the ground with waste oil, the taxpayer has to pay an extra dollar when getting an oil change? Those waste oil companies were in business, making money, then go out of business, leaving the taxpayer with the responsibility of cleaning up the sites in Plymouth, Presque Isle, Ellsworth and Casco.
Didn’t those companies have insurance? Those companies should be required to have adequate coverage.
Where is the Environmental Protection Agency?
