AUBURN – Barbara Garrigan of Lake Auburn Townhouse, where she has lived for the past 16 years, was given a surprise party in honor of her 80th birthday.

The Sept. 20 event was arranged by her family, friends and staff at the townhouse. She received gifts, and entertainment was provided. There were refreshments and a special potluck supper, provided by the tenants of floors one through six.

Garrigan was born in Rumford, Sept. 21, 1927. In 1964, she moved to Auburn. Garrigan worked at the Oxford Paper Co. for 16 years.

Her love for the sea turned into a hobby that led to scuba diving around the world for 17 years. Her favorite pastime was watching underwater oceanographer, Jacques Coustou.

Other interests include knitting, crocheting, reading, gardening, interacting with friends and the activities at the townhouse. Once in awhile, she enjoys dancing with the music.
