CARTHAGE – A 62-year-old Carthage man is facing a felony drug charge after police say they found about 7 pounds of processed marijuana at his River Street property.

Edmond R. Berry was arrested on a charge of unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs on Oct. 11, Franklin County Sheriff’s Lt. Niles Yeaton said Wednesday.

Berry was released from the jail the same day on $3,000 unsecured bail for a Dec. 28 court appearance at Franklin County Superior Court in Farmington.

County Cpl. Steve Charles had smelled marijuana after a previous investigation in the area and as they were driving by, they spotted a marijuana plant, Yeaton said..

Charles and two Maine Drug Enforcement agents got a search warrant but before they could execute it, Berry arrived home, he said.

Just more than 7 pounds of processed marijuana was found on the property, Yeaton said.

Berry was unavailable for comment Wednesday.
