Speaker set
LEWISTON – The National Active Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 1130 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at the Ramada Inn.
The speaker will be Dr. Susan Shaw, who will talk on the differences between a living will and medical durable power of attorney.
Members are asked to bring canned goods for the annual donation.
Plans for the meeting were made at the home of Vi Dumais; attending were Sue Stetson, Mike and Flo Bohunicky, Doris Hamel and Joanne Morse.
Parent night
LISBON FALLS – The annual sophomore student and parent night will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, in the Lisbon High School library.
The program informs parents and students in what Lisbon High School offers in teaching students about careers, how parents can help, future career activities and events that students will be participating in over the next three years.
Marines to meet
AUBURN – The Central Maine Detachment, Marine Corps League, will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the New Auburn Post 153, American Legion, 71 South Main. St.
Commandant Raymond Lemieux is asking to have all members attend as plans will be made for a busy November. The detachment will host the department.

Haunted trail
LITCHFIELD – Carrie Ricker Middle School eighth-graders and the Oak Hill High School junior class will host an evening of thrills and chills from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, and Saturday, Oct. 27. Start at the haunted trail at Carrie Ricker Middle School and end with a spine-tinkling half-mile hayride. Additional, less frightening activities include games, movies, stories and crafts held inside for a $2 charge.
Wisdom’s program
LEWISTON – The Wisdom’s Center for Women will hold a program, “Is the One You Care about Drinking – Symptoms and Signs of Drinking Behavior,” with Ann Marie Mullins, MSW, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 1. Benefit dinner
MONMOUTH – A benefit dinner for the Christina Goff Family Fund will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Monmouth Fish and Game, Route 202. Entertainment will include a DJ and karaoke until 10 p.m.
Chris was first diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2004 and has undergone a bone marrow and a stem cell transplant, chemotherapy and radiation.
She has since been diagnosed for the third time with the disease and needs good thoughts, prayers and support.

LEWISTON – Hope Haven Gospel Mission will provide a free Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22, at 209 Lincoln St.
