Society program

OXFORD – The Oxford Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, at the Kay House located on Pleasant Street.

The program will include audience participation, and members are asked to bring a fall memory, story, poem, recipe, song or reading to share. Refreshments will be served after the program.

Screenings set

PARIS – Life Line Screening will be at the Deering Memorial United Methodist Church, Main and Church streets, South Paris, on Monday, Oct. 29. Appointments will begin at 10 a.m.

Screenings are fast and painless. They involve the use of ultrasound technology and scan for potential health problems related to blocked arteries, aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered.

The four screenings take less than an hour to complete. The cost for a wellness package is $149.

Benefit supper

FRYEBURG – A benefit supper and raffle for Mary Libby Johnson will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Elizabeth Anne Seton Church, Route 5.

Johnson underwent treatments for esophageal cancer and is facing a long recovery time. To make a donation, contact Holly and Henry Foster at 935-2915 or Diane and Barbara Gushee at 935-2248. The event is sponsored by Johnson’s neighborhood friends.

Kids’ event

PARIS – “All kids have heroes,” said Pastor Kevin Smart of South Paris Baptist Church. “At our Heroes Unmasked event kids will meet heroes worth having and have a ball at carnival games as well.”

Heroes Unmasked is an all-fun, no-fear Bible adventure. Children and their families will encounter costumed Bible hero actors, play more than a dozen carnival games, decorate cookies to take home, do crafts and collect Bible Hero cards.

The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, at the South Baptist Church, 1 Park St. For more information call 743-6405.

Bridge results

NORWAY – Oxford Hills Duplicate Bridge Club met Oct. 19 in the Fare Share Common, Main Street, when a 5 and 1/2 table Howell movement was played.

Finishing first in Flight A were Woody Mercier and Les Buzzelll second, Pat Quinn and Georgette Jewell; third, Kathy and Pete Cummings, also first in Flight B

Finishing second in B were Carol Curran and Suzanne Andrews who also were first in Flight C; third in B, Eileen Potvin and Della Starbird; second in Flight C, Cynthia Clifford and Lois Barr.
