This summer the Mechanic Falls Rec. girl’s softball farm team won it all. With a total of 14 wins the girls were in it for the glory. “It was a long season but it all paid off in the end” said Head Coach Darryl Gibson. “I couldn’t have done it without the hard work from the team, their parents, and my assistant coaches John Destrini and Andy Whalen.”

They kicked off the season with a strong start and a desire to win. The Blue Strikers ended up winning all but two games and had two ties as well. The team came in second place in their division and went on to win two playoff games and winning their division, which then led them to the Championship game.

The “big” game was scheduled on August 4, at the Oxford Pismo Beach field. A sweltering day of humidity filled the field as the players waited anxiously for the game to begin. As the ump began to holler “Batter up!” the Blue Strikers put up their gloves, and the pitcher released the ball. The championship game had just begun.

By the third inning South Paris had ended up scoring four runs leaving Mechanic falls in the dust with 0. But the team didn’t give up on their faith; they believed that if they made it this far they could go even further. In the fifth inning Mechanic Falls had come back leaving the score to be nine to four. After having a seven run rule, the inning stopped and it was South Paris’ turn to crack the bats. South Paris had gotten four runs that inning and now the score was nine to eight, the seventh inning, and all they needed was the team to be fully motivated and to have great teamwork. The Blue Strikers got two outs in the flash but now it was time to score three. South Paris’ player was up to bat. The pitcher released the ball, the girl hit it in return but getting stopped greatly by the second baseman and the gentle underhanded throw to the first baseman led them to the win!

It was the hard work that got the steam so far! Great thanks to all the coaches, parents, and players, this was a great season!
