On Sept. 11, 2007, six years after the tragedy of the terrorist attacks, Bruce M. Whittier Middle School took time to acknowledge our local heroes. Whittier Middle honored the forces who serve in Poland. The police department, fire department, and rescue department were all invited to be recognized.
BMWMS celebrated our heroes of Poland by hosting a lunch. Every student and staff member at Bruce Whittier lined up and graciously clapped all of the departments into the building. The entire school gave a thundering, honoring cheer. Once BMWMS clapped the departments in, we all settled in and ate lunch. The guests were also treated to delectable cake.
After a delicious lunch, all of the visitors introduced themselves. We learned that one of the members of the fire department had previously served in the armed forces and received a Purple Heart Award. After each of the heroes introduced themselves, students and staff members took the time to thank the people who serve in Poland, including our very own resource officer, Dan Vachon.
If anyone sees a police officer, fireman or woman, or anyone who is serving in the armed forces, make sure you show your appreciation for them in serving our country. Once again, BMWMS would like to thank the people who make a difference in our community.
