AUBURN – Friends of St. Dominic Regional High School gathered at Greg and Mary Desjardin’s home on Sept. 26 to honor the legacy of G. Michael Welch, who died on that day one year ago. He was St. Dom’s principal for many years.

During the evening, as people celebrated Welch’s life, Principal Don Fournier announced the G. Michael Welch Legacy Scholarship.

Bishop Joseph Gerry, guest of honor, remarked on the value of Catholic education and how important it is to young people.

The scholarship endowment, which is being managed through the Catholic Foundation of Maine, is a testimony to the many years of hard work Welch gave in service to the children of Maine.

The Welch Endowment will fund the tuition assistance program at St. Dom’s and will include both need and merit based scholarships.

All friends of St. Dominic’s are invited to help build the resource. For more information, call Patricia Long, executive director, Catholic Foundation of Maine, at 207-321-7835.
