Cooking class

AUBURN – The Auburn Seventh-Day Adventist Church will hold a vegetarian gourmet cooking school from 4 to 6 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 4 and 11, at the Community Service Building, Old Farm Road, Minot Avenue.

There will be a supper at 6 p.m. after the class. Co-hosts will be David DePalma and Jeff Chase. Preregistration is required and the cost is $20 a person/a session. Contact the church for registration at 784-0861.

Art club talk

AUBURN – The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at the High Street Congregational Church.

Speaker will be Patricia Daunis-Dunning, jewelry designer. Born and raised locally, she attended the Rhode Island School of Design where she studied sculpture, hollowware and metalsmithing. Her jewelry is sold at her shop on Congress Street in Portland.

Hostesses will be Annie Ray, Avis Grant, Melanie Ness and Jean Ness.

Giving Tree

DURHAM – Durham will sponsor the Giving Tree tags again this year for families who may otherwise not have a Christmas. Gift tags will be available on Monday, Nov. 26.

In addition to gift tags, fleece blankets, knitted or crocheted hats and mittens for infants, children and adults will be collected.

Applications are available at the Durham Town Office and Lisbon Town Office. To receive an application for the Giving Tree or receive more information, call Debbie 353-6925 or Judy Goddard 353-3000, ext. 124.

SAD 52 class

TURNER – SAD 52 River Valley Adult and Community Education will present “Introduction to Literature,” beginning Tuesday, Nov. 6, with classes on Tuesday and Thursday for 11 weeks.

The class includes memoir, comedy, journals, essay, historical fiction and satire. It is reading intensive, intending to convey to the student a better understanding of how to read and understand literature.

Food collected

DURHAM – A collection box for nonperishable food is located at the Durham Town Office and residents may drop off donations during business hours. Items they are looking for on a regular basis include cooking oil, baking mix, dry milk, crackers, peanut butter, jelly, tuna, coffee, tea and hot chocolate.
